Enjoying traditional Jewish recipes is much easier to do when you don’t have to worry about the time it takes to prepare the meal. Fortunately, a lot of the recipes that have developed over the years can be made in a crock pot. The crock pot is perhaps my favorite kitchen gadget. It is a no fuss cooking assistant that does most of the work for you and never complains.
If you work a part time or full time job, and/or have a family and/or have limited cooking skills, then a crock pot is going to allow you to create rich, flavor meals for less than it costs to buy a pre-packaged meal and with very little effort. To utilize the crock pot as your cooking assistant you first need to find one that it sized appropriately. Crock pots come in all different sizes from models designed for one or two people, to extra large crock pots that are designed for large families. While the small one may seem the way to go for singles and couples, it really is too small to prepare a good meal. To get your money out of your crock pot, buy at least one that is capable of handling a whole chicken.
Preparing a meal in a crock pot is very easy to do. Start by placing the ceramic insert into the heating unit and then plug in the crock pot. Turn the heater on to high to start. Chop up your veggies and measure your liquid. If you will be creating a meat dish that involves a large cut of meat you can simply place the meat in the pot, toss in the veggies and cover with the appropriate amount of water or stock. On the other hand, if you are creating a dish with smaller pieces of meat, like a stew, then you will want to brown the meat before putting it in the crock pot. To encourage a thicker sauce to develop, simply roll the browned meat in instant tapioca before placing the meat in the crock pot.
There are a lot of tasty Jewish recipes that you can make in a crock pot including a delicious autumn veggie soup and an amazing pulled BBQ beef brisket.
