Tonight is New Year’s Eve. This is the night when people think about what they have done over the year and what they want to accomplish in the coming year. On the top of most peoples’ lists is the resolution to lose weight or to become healthier. One way that you can accomplish both of these things is to try a vegetarian diet for a year.

Vegetarian diets have several advantages. First of all you can eat a lot more vegetables because they are low in calories. Next they are high in nutrients, which means that your body will be getting more of what it needs. Finally, vegetables are low in fat and high in fiber. This will help you to naturally cleanse your body, prevent certain types of cancers and to help you lose weight. Vegetables are also cheaper than meat because they take less energy and resources to produce.

While a vegetarian diet is a great option, you need to know how to put together a balanced vegetarian diet before you try it out. Getting enough vegetarian protein is going to be a prime concern. Protein can be found in nuts, beans and legumes.

Many Jewish recipes and traditional Jewish recipes can easily be transformed into a vegetarian recipe by simply replacing the meat source with tofu, mushrooms, nuts or eggplant. There are also many low fat Jewish recipes that are already vegetarian. Experiment with these recipes when planning out your diet for the New Year.
